From 1881 significant introduction activities were conducted in Batumi region by one of the pioneer holiday-makers Mecheslav D’Alphonse, who used to have his own garden near Chakvi. This is the place from which the history of the Batumi Botanical Garden originates and which was officially established in 1912.
